1883 - Spectacular sunrises and sunsets as result of dust veil aloft from Krakatoa volcano in East Indies: "western sky lighted up as if by a gigantic fire in the heart of the Adirondacks." (Monthly Weather Review, Nov. 1883)
1898 - Heavy snowstorm occurred over Vermont while the famous Portland Storm was ravaging the New England coast: 20" at Chelsea, Hartland, and Woodstock.
